Here are some quick updates from the Friends of Mascoma Foundation!

Scholarship Updates:

The Board of Directors received 17 applications from seniors at Mascoma Regional High chool for scholarships.  The recipients of the scholarships will be notified on June 9th at Awards Night at the High School.  A special thank you to Carolyn Cusick, Keith Gilbert, Roberta Hines, Jerry Liebrand and Julie & Jonathan Weiss for your generous financial support.

 Reminder Pantry Hours:  The pantry is open Tuesdays and Wednesday’s from 3pm to 5:30pm at  the FOM headquarters behind Canaan Hardware Store, 9 On The Common Way. 

The Enfield pantry will be in operation from August 5th until September 30th (2:30-5:30pm) at Huse Park Pavilion, Route 4, Enfield, NH. 

Our pantries are open to anyone in need of a 3-day supply of groceries that lives in one of the 5 Mascoma Valley Towns: Canaan, Dorchester, Grafton, Enfield, and Orange. Our public pantries are open to all residents in need. If your budget (or someone you know) is tight because of rising fuel costs or other expenses shopping with us can make a big difference. We have a great mixed selection of fresh produce, meat, pantry staples, dairy, personal care items, and bread items each week. 

Pantry Needs:  The food pantry has a high demand need for farm fresh eggs, condiments, side dishes, and baking mixes.  If you have items you would like to donate, please email info@friendsofmascoma.org or you can bring the items directly to the pantry at 9 on the Common Way, Canaan, NH 03741.

Volunteers:  Volunteer Appreciation week was April 21st-27th.  We had a great time celebrating our volunteers and showing some much needed love!

WE CANNOT THANK OUR VOLUNTEERS ENOUGH FOR ALL THEY DO!!

Would you or someone you know be interested in volunteering for a day or a couple hours per week at the pantry.  Our organization depends on volunteers in order to operate and provide the services we do to the community.  If you are interested in volunteering please email: info@friendsofmascoma.org

Donations:  If you would like to donate food or snacks for the community pantry or the school pantry’s please email info@friendsofmascoma.org.  Please note that we are not able to accept out of date food.  If you would like to donate monetarily to Friends of Mascoma for food to be purchased, please send donations to: Tamara Carlson, Executive Director, Friends of Mascoma, 9 on the Common Way, Canaan, NH 03741.  We appreciate any and all donations no matter the size.

NH Gives! June 11th-12th

We are so excited for NH Gives which runs from 5pm June 11th until 5pm June 12th.  NH Gives is our largest fundraising event of the year and helps to fund the scholarship and mini-grant programs.  NH Gives – an initiative of the NH Center for Nonprofits - is a powerful, statewide 24-hour online fundraising event that is designed to build community, connect donors to local nonprofits and generate excitement about the nonprofit sector.

Is your class signed up to compete in this years Class Clash for NH Gives?  Last year the Class of 2023 was the winner!  Who will be the winning class this year?  Email info@friendsofmascoma.org if you are interested in being the Champion for your class.  What’s better than some friendly competition for a good cause/charity?

Here are some quick updates from the Friends of Mascoma Foundation!

Friends of Mascoma Welcomes New Executive Director

The Board of Directors is pleased to welcome our New Executive Director, Tamara Carlson.  Tamara joined Friends of Mascoma in March 2024.  She has a B.S. in Paralegal Studies from the University of Hartford and a MBA from the University of Phoenix.  Tamara brings an extensive executive background including the CEO of the Bristol (CT) Boys and Girls Club, COO of Taylor Energy, and Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions for Stanley Black & Decker.  Tamara lives in Danbury with her husband, children and four dogs. 

 



 

The board would like to express our sincere thanks to Kate Plumley Stewart, a founding member of Friends of Mascoma, for her assistance as our Interim Executive Director. Kate stepped out of her role as Vice-President to help our organization continue to serve our community during our transition.  We are so grateful for all of her time spent and look forward to her continued help. Her marketing skills have set the bar!

Teacher Appreciation Week:  Join us in celebrating our Mascoma Teaching Staff the week of May 6-10 during National Teacher Appreciation Week.

Scholarships:  Scholarship applications were due by Mascoma High School students on April 15th.  Our Scholarship Committee is excited to review the applications.  Keep an eye out for future newsletters for the scholarship recipient’s announcement.

 

Mini-Grants:  The Friends of Mascoma offers mini-grants to the Mascoma Valley educators.  Mini-grants are offered throughout the entire year.  Educators should reach out to their administration for approval and submission to FOM.  Please visit www.friendsofmascoma.org/mini-grants for more information.

 

NH Gives! June 11th-12th

We are pleased to report that we have once again signed up to participate in NH Gives!  This year’s event will kick off at 5pm on June 11th. NH Gives is our largest fundraiser of the year.  NH Gives assists in our funding of mini-grants and scholarships.
