At Senior Awards night at Mascoma Valley Regional High School on June 9th, Bridget, Holly, Sadie, Carol, and Tamara awarded 13 scholarships totaling $23,500 on behalf of Friends of Mascoma Foundation and our generous donors and sponsors.

Friends of Mascoma Foundation has three main programs: we supply food through three food pantries as part of our Friends Feeding Friends program; we give mini-grants to teaching staff to enhance their curriculum or add special activities to their classes; and we award scholarships to graduating Mascoma seniors. We are pleased to announce we are awarding 13 scholarships this year.

As in past years, the majority of the funds for these scholarships were raised during NH Gives. We have hundreds of wonderful supporters who give money each year in support of our programs. We are participating in NH Gives again, which takes place this week on June 11th and 12th to help replenish our scholarship fund. Previous recipients can join us to help raise funds and earn additional scholarship money during NH Gives. Thank you to everyone who continues to donate to make these scholarships possible.

𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞
𝙲𝚊𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚢𝚗 𝙲𝚞𝚜𝚒𝚌𝚔 𝚃𝚎𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚂𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚕𝚊𝚛𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚙

This recipient of this Scholarship started out as the only girl in her welding class for the past two years. Even though she found a love for the art, design and expression of welding, becoming an unpaid volunteer in the special education summer school program made her change her course and pivot to pursuing a life career in teaching. She is passionate about becoming a special education or elementary teacher. She says she made great connections with the students and walking into the classroom gave her great joy each school day, and kids were excited and happy to see her. A quote from her, “Watching the impact teachers had on students last summer made me realize that teachers do work really hard all day long and receive little or no recognition.” This doesn’t seem to deter her, because she wants to become one of them - those that make a difference to our youth. We are pleased to award Gabriella Pierce the Carolyn Cusick Teaching Scholarship.

𝐊𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬
𝙵𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚜 𝚘𝚏 𝙼𝚊𝚜𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚊 𝚂𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚕𝚊𝚛𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚙

This recipient has a passion for sports and wellness which will serve her well on her journey to become a physical therapist. She has demonstrated the ability to successfully balance academics, sports, student council, National Honor Society and commitment to her community throughout high school. We are pleased to award Kylie Rogers a Friends of Mascoma Scholarship.

𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫

This recipient knew that she wanted a career in healthcare, and got a head start with an internship at Dartmouth-Health. This opportunity allowed her to define radiology as her path. She has continued to work at Dartmouth while serving on National Honor Society, Student Council, and playing sports. We are excited to see her continue to succeed and are pleased to award a Friends of Mascoma scholarship to Hailey Miller.

This student is an extremely dedicated and hard-working gentleman. He takes his physical training as seriously as his academic work, balancing it all and setting an example to the younger generations. President Bridget Labrie has had the pleasure of knowing him from day one and she cannot wait to see what he achieves at college and beyond. We are pleased to award James Thomas a Friends of Mascoma Scholarship.

This student has certainly set herself on an amazing path. She has worked hard in sports, being one of the first to go through the girls’ soccer program, earned a spot on National Honor society and values being a role model. It is clear that she cares about her community and the world around her and we cannot wait to see how she helps educate and transform the world around her. We are pleased to award the Malformity Labs STEM Scholarship to Emily Seiler.

This student has seen the importance of giving back from a very young age. She has played multiple sports, held leadership roles within school groups and maintained grades that earned her a spot on the student council. Her future goals show that she continues to plan on giving back both in the form of military service and working to help in the world of intelligence. This recipient has excelled at the Hartford Area Career & Technical Center. He spent two years in the industrial mechanic and welding program, was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society, and is passionate about becoming a welder. He is also active in our community through his service as a fire cadet. We are pleased to award Ramsey Stebbins with the Roberta Hines and Jerry Liebrand Science Scholarship in Memory of Verne Hines.

This applicant has successfully navigated through her high school career while balancing National Honor society, Interact Club, AV club, and a vast amount of service to her community. We never considered all the complexities and facets that go into filmmaking until we read her application; her ability to manage her priorities has already set her up for success on her career path. She mentioned that she wants to use film to “bring more positivity, bring people together and inspired to do good in their lives and community.” We are pleased to award a Friends of Mascoma scholarship to Breanna Houston.

This applicant has been part of the National Honor Society, Student Council and been actively involved in community service throughout the community. She has incredible strength and persistence. She mentioned within her application that she “believes that everything that she does, even if it may not be something she enjoys, that every experience whether liked or not, will give her some valuable feedback.” We are pleased to award the Robert Hines and Jerry Liebrand Healthcare Scholarship in Memory of Sadie Seamans to Olivia Adams.

This applicant has been an active participant in field hockey, spring track, National Honor Society, and Interact Club. She has also been very active in community service including helping Friends of Mascoma in packing vacation food boxes. She has a keen interest in dietetics and applied nutrition. She’s also thought about helping people with eating disorders so she can “help them understand that they are beautiful and need to fuel their bodies.” We are pleased to award this Friends of Mascoma scholarship to Kara Miller.

This applicant has been a member of drama club, the Granite State Challenge quiz bowl team, Interact Club, National Honor Society, concert/prep band, and Student Council. She has been active in helping the Friends of Mascoma pack Thanksgiving and vacation boxes a few times. She does her best to incorporate every detail she can, following through to the end result where she can feel a sense of pride in having created something that she is proud of. She plans to attend Tufts University majoring in human factors engineering. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐮𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤
𝙵𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚜 𝚘𝚏 𝙼𝚊𝚜𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚊 𝚂𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚕𝚊𝚛𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚙

This applicant has been an avid track runner. He has faced quite a bit of adversity, having numerous hospital visits, surgeries and ultimately a heart transplant. He is always kept the words “I am going to bounce back!” in his head throughout all his experiences. He has a keen interest in health sciences and plans to attend the University of New Hampshire to major in the College of Health and Human Services. We are pleased to award this Friends of Mascoma scholarship to Joshua Park.

This applicant has worked very hard during his academic life. He is a hard worker and always determined to push through challenges. He is a very kind and giving soul.
